How to prepare for your lifestyle London family photography photoshoot
If you are looking to book a family photoshoot in London and are wondering how does it work, then here are some simply tips that will make the whole experience fun and relaxed.
Your children - set them up for success!
Tell them in advance what will happen on the day, it is never a good idea to surprise them. Children love routine and familiar faces, so it is worth explaining them that you will meet a friend that will take photos whilst you will have a lot of fun.
Choose outfits that are comfortable for exploring. This is such an important tip that I cannot stress it enough. Some outfits look cute, but are incredibly uncomfortable for children. They need to be able to climb and run, and not worry at all about fixing their outfit (especially true with short girl dresses) or worrying about stains. Or… we can meet at home where most clothing is optional for young kids. That way we can capture all the yumminess of baby rolls, cute toddler bellies and deliciously sweet fingers and toes.
Children tend to be happier when we accommodate their needs and make the process more enjoyable for them, that’s why I would suggest to stick to ONE outfit.
An early bedtime the day before your shoot will ensure that everyone is well rested and happy. A late night will make anyone grumpy and definitely not worth the stress.
Have breakfast before your family photoshoot and bring snacks. Ah, and coffee for parents, of course.
Now you are ready for your family photography session!
Clothing.
The clothing should reflect you and I always suggest wearing comfortable clothing for your family photography session. With time, these photos will have more meaning if you are not ‘‘posing’’ to show the outfit, but you keep it real.
3. Make it a fun day for everyone.
It’s not everyday that you are having your photos taken, so make it special and fun. Go out for pancakes after your family session, stay at the playground once we finish our shoot, plan a relaxing activity that you know the children will enjoy. Basically, make it a fun day to remember.
4. Forget about posing.
The best way to look good in photos is to enjoy yourself.
ALL you have to do is spend quality time with your children. Nothing else! Just be present, love them, cuddle them, play with them and enjoy every second of this wonderful chaos. I promise you there’s love, joy and tenderness even in all your little routines and quiet moments.
If your kids are running around, lean it. Engage with them and enter their world of joy and love. In any case, I promise you we will have a lot of fun!
